Good afternoon, good morning, good evening, wherever you may be listening to. I am your host, Philip Paul, and this is episode four of Off the Court. So hopefully everybody's doing good today. If you hear my chair, my apologies. Let's start with Skip Bayless. One of the topics we're going to talk about and to try and switch. Skip Bayliss and Russell Westbrook. Russell Westbrook, as some of us may know, a lot of us, and for those who don't, Russell Westbrook just retired. Retired from the NBA. Of course, when people retire, good players. Excuse me. The conversation is: are they a Hall of Famer? Are they a first ballot Hall of Famer? And thinking about that as I'm talking, I forget or I kind of question how fast Carmelo Anthony became a Hall of Famer. I am a fan of Carmelo. I like him more than LeBron. I believe I've said that before. But I don't see how he retired and became got put into the Hall of Fame so fast. There are a lot of other players that are, you know, still around that haven't been inducted into the Hall of Fame, and by all means I think that they should be. But for Skip Bayliss, not even 24 hours, I think, did he wait until Russell Westbrook was retired. Say that five times fast. Westbrook is hard. But he didn't even wait 24 hours for him to be retired, I believe. He immediately, like he had one in the chamber, got on his uh show, his channel, his platform, however it may be, and instantly just started. He's not my Hall of Famer. No, he's not. You never said you were a fan of Russell Westbrook. You've always quite honestly disrespected Russell Westbrook. I don't know much how you disrespected LeBron James. But yet you didn't have too much to say about Kawhi, except for this, this, this current stuff. I I think he spoke on that. I don't, I stopped following Skip Bayless after Undisputed was over. I don't even listen to Shannon Sharp too much. Some people work well together, some people work well by themselves. And those are the two guys that work well together. Skip and and and Stephen A, they work well together. Them separate, but we're not here to talk about that, right? Excuse me. So he gets on his platform and he says, you know, Russell Westbrook is not his Hall of Famer. Not his cup of gatorade, as he explained. The problem I have is that you got up on your platform, talked about Russell Westbrook and the bad games he's had. You kind of swept under the rug, or like, eh, when, you know, recognizing his triple doubles. And that's where I have the hang-up at, right there. He has all these triple doubles, more than the original person who was holding it, or the person who was in second place holding it, which was Oscar Robinson. Oscar Robinson did win a championship. But Russell Westbrook broke his record. Put himself in second place. Triple doubles. That's it's hard to get a double double, and he got a triple double. So we gotta give respect where respect is due. But if Oscar Robinson is a Hall of Famer, and this isn't for all those who who are saying that Russell Westbrook is a Hall of Famer, it's for those who think like uh Skip Bayliss thinks. And some other people too. Plus Skip Bayliss was the one that seemed to be more vocal about it. Um again, triple doubles out the wazoo. Definitely should be in the Hall of Fame. I'm sorry. He definitely should. He gave 110% every time he played. Barely got injured. Whatever team he played on, he definitely, I'd say made them a little bit better. Once he got towards the end, after he played for the Lakers, I think that was it after that. It was, I don't know. He got on Sacramento, he did a little bit. Uh, not sure what he did for Washington, if he did anything for Washington. I swear he sat out, but I'm not sure. The little tickie tech stuff aside, Russell Westbrook is a point guard I would want on my team, whether he's uh starting or whether he's coming off the bench. And he's proven that him coming off the bench is better than him starting. Him coming off the bench late in like the second quarter, late in any quarter, like half the quarter. Russell Westbrook is gonna do his thing. He's gonna make sure that he pushes his team or wills his team to win. So Skip Bayless can nope, I'm not even gonna say that. That's that's mean. Uh Skip Bayless needs to really sit back and and rethink uh what he's saying. But then again, you know, Cowboys fan, right? Mmm, Cowboys fans. But yeah, jokes aside, Skip Bayless was completely disrespectful for that. No business saying, not even, it isn't what he said. It is the fact that all it was, or maybe it is what he said, but most of it was just pointing out all the negative. Nothing positive. Oh, why I call him Russell Westbrick? And oh, why he's not my cup of tea. A lot of people aren't people's cup of tea or cup of Gatorade, which you know he was being a jerk looking for clicks with that one. Cup of Gatorade? Come on, man. Mad disrespectful. He don't even drink Gatorade. He's always promoting his Diet Mountain Dew. The nectar of the still very disrespectful. Looks like he's looking for clicks. Looks like he's looking to get some traction so he could be, you know, back on that horse pause. So he could be relevant again. Not saying that he is irrelevant when it comes to this space. It ain't Skip no more. Gilbert Arenas was right, you know, new media. He tried to bring Skip in, but you know, the Arenas uh show is no more. Gil's Arena. So Skip is trying to find his footing or find his way back into uh sports media, which all he gotta do is chill, call stuff down the middle, and people will rock with Skip. He's not a horrible uh sports commentator or sports analyst or whatever they're called. He's good at his job, he's good at what he does. He watches the games, but he tends to be a little disrespectful. Same thing with Stephen A. Smith. He tends to be disrespectful too. You know, now he's calling for Kawhi to be banned from the NBA. Just like he jumped on the fact that Kyrie wasn't a fan of taking a shot and didn't want to take the shot. Now he bet walked that back. Excuse me. He walked that back because now I guess some sort of facts are out as far as uh Fauci is concerned, but we're not talking about them. But you guys can't these these people, you know, they are in these positions because they know their stuff, yes, but there has to be a point where you say, I don't have to say that about this person. I don't have to say that about that person. I don't have to bring anybody down to lift them up, basically. You know, uh Shaq, he's hard on people, boss. He um anybody that plays center position, he's being difficult with. So there is that. But it isn't to the point where I don't think, to the point where it's just disrespectful. But not disrespectful. Skip Bayliss tends to be very disrespectful. And if you've seen the whole blow-up with him and Shannon Sharp for the show undisputed, that is definitely part why it ended. You know, Skip's level of disrespect, Skip's level for not uh not acknowledging people's greatness and only seeing the the bad. He really comes off as if Michael Jordan is the end-all be-all, and he's not. Yes, he won his championships, yes, he did it the way he did it, and that's great. But everybody can't be be, you know, can't be him. Everybody can't do that. No one's done it yet, so it's proven. And even still, the argument's gonna be he did it two times, treat uh three peat, two three-peats. So you're not, you're you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. Uh again, back to topic at hand right now. Uh very disrespectful to Russell Westbrook, but I'll say congratulations to the man. I'll say he definitely belongs in the Hall of Fame just for passing Oscar Robinson, a Hall of Famer. I'm sorry, does that not qualify if you pass a Hall of Famer? Right? Say we could kind of make the argument for LeBron's definitely going in the Hall of Fame. So let me not even uh word it that way, but he's definitely going in the Hall of Fame. He's past everybody. So that's a given. But I'm willing to bet that Skip will probably down that too. He doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame because he didn't do it. Like, who cares how he did it? He did it. It sucks, you know. You did leave your team. Okay, cool. A lot of people leave teams. And he did it when he had a choice to do it. So there is that. Every team he's left, he's had the choice. And he made that choice. It's like being in a bad relationship. You either stay or you go, it's up to you. Russell Westbrook didn't have choices. He got traded. He got sent. He, whatever. I don't think about, I don't know about his OKC situation when he was there. I don't know if he decided to leave or they traded him. I don't remember. But, dude, Rockets, uh, Clippers, um, Lakers, OKC, Wizards for a stint. I don't, I think that's it. But wherever he played, Sacramento, you know, wherever he played, he played his ass off. No load management, nothing. He played. So kudos to Russell Westbrook. Congratulations on retiring. He might, that was a rumor I saw that uh Ice Cube might try to get him for the big three, which would be crazy. That would put eyes on the big three for sure. I mean, there's eyes on it now, but that'll put eyes on them soon. If that were to happen. Again, congratulations to Russell Westbrook. And because I just mentioned the big three, I found out earlier that they are in their playoffs right now. Uh, Dallas Triplets are in there. Um Miami 305 are in there. What is there? There's another team called the Ball Hogs. And I'm not sure about everybody else, but if you ask me, Miami 305 and the Big Three, you can't beat Lance Stevenson and Michael Beasley. And they won a championship recently. So, the big three. So it'll be interesting to see what happens for this season. Uh, right now, people want to see the 305 versus the Power. I forget their names. It's Power, Triplets, Hogs, uh, 305, Bouviak, which I don't think Bouviak is still there. I'm not sure. I gotta see, because I haven't heard nothing about them in a long time. But yeah, uh big three playoffs. They're they're going on right now or getting ready to happen. So that'll be good to see something to keep your eyes on when you want to watch some more basketball before uh the NBA season starts. Now, the other thing as we're still talking about basketball is Pablo Torre. This guy. Not no shade. I don't know him like that. I actually found out about him from an episode of the Joe Bunn podcast that uh I used to listen to. Now it's getting kind of dull. But he was on there, Joe uh Pablo Torre was on the Joe Bunn podcast, and he talked about the Clippers situation, and nobody really I'm I'm gonna get to this because I know I mentioned him uh last episode, but there's there's more to this. So he mentioned the whole situation with the Clippers and Kauai, and this is going on, that's going on, whatever, whatever. The name of the company, Dactronics, it's not real. They created the company to pay him more money because they didn't want to mess with the salary cap, or they couldn't afford to mess with the salary cap, so they created a company, and that's how they give Kawhi his money. Money enough. Kawhi is like doing uh what do you call uh not shorts, but he's doing little clips and things of that nature and talking all of a sudden. So that's a little weird. Uh given the fact that his whole career he really hasn't said much, but that crazy laugh that got memed up. So he talked about Kawhi, he talked about Dakatronics, he talked about a lot of stuff, and you know, whistleblower, boom, boom, boom. So they're getting into this and everybody's waiting to see what's going to happen. Uh I don't recall Skip talking about this, so that that kind of ties in, hey, you know, him coming at players go out Kawhi. Used to root for him like crazy. But reporting on the Kawhi situation and the Clippers situation, cool. My problem now is the new report, not even a report. I'm sorry, it's not a report. He uh made a video on his channel about how it is suspicious or a coincidence that the Lakers were able to sell the team. For Genie Bus was able to sell the team for 12.5 to Bob Iger and someone else. Bob Iger is the former CEO of Disney. He tied in somehow. Bob Iger. Um, uh, who was it? Was it uh it was a hockey, a hockey team, Bob Iger and the president given a ring, and just it was so much. I couldn't even keep up with it. I just was baffled. Uh of course you'd have to sit down, probably like him, and really dig deep into this, and you know, which I'm not saying pause no more. So that I'm done with that. I'm not pausing nothing. But he makes it look bad for the Lakers or Genie Bus who have sold the team as fast as they have. Now, they were sold last year, and now they're getting sold again. You know, like the girlfriend you never wanted, right? Keep giving it away, giving it away, blah, blah, blah. Which giving your girlfriend away, I don't, that's weird. That's weird. But the Lakers or Genie Buzz or whoever, if that's what you want to do, that's fine. I don't see the problem. And then again, why would you care? Like, why is this so newsworthy? Oh no, a team got sold and it happened fast. This could have been something that was going on behind the scenes for a while. Or it was a thing, you know, you don't know. People could have had a handshake agreement. Hey, they don't go to the playoffs, this, hey, they don't go, they don't win a championship, that. If this happens, this, that, you know, because it happened so fast, there had to have been a transaction or an agreement or or an agreement to have happened in the middle of all of this for it to be executed so fast. So to dig deep into this and say that there's something there, I don't think it is. And even if it is, okay, what are you getting out of outing the NBA? It ain't gonna do nothing for ya. And that leads me to it being mentioned today that uh football players have, well, not even football players, but the NFL, like it's a secret or something, has fixtures. Right? This happens, okay, cool. Such and such is in charge to make sure it gets swept under the rug, make sure it becomes a nothing burger, this, that, the third. So yeah, you, Pablo Torre, bringing this stuff up. Cool, kudos, thanks, question mark, but it's not gonna do nothing. Because just like they say the NFL has fixtures, the NBA has fixtures. All the stuff that has happened in the NBA, all of it got swept under the rug. I don't even want to bring things up because you know, some players are no longer with us, or, you know, I ain't trying to get sued or none of that. But all I'm saying is a lot of crazy things have happened and it's gone away like it never has. Did I forget some of the stuff? No. Did you guys forget some of the stuff? I'm sure you haven't, and I'm sure you've questioned it. What happened to it, right? It got swept under the rug. It got fixed. The problem got fixed. So it's a nothing burger now. So this situation, nothing burger. They already let the trade happen with uh Kauai. This whole, oh, we gotta see what happens. The trade might not go through. He's in Toronto. On his way to uh, oh, I don't want to get it wrong. I don't know if it's China, Japan, Hong Kong. Uh Wu Wuhan. Wuhan, China. Bad news there, right? But he's on his way there to play basketball with some of the guys out there, I believe. Kawaii. He did a little thing on Instagram or something like that, did a video and talking and says he's on his way to go play ball with them. So he's not worried about it. He knows this, he knows what's going on. If this is the case and they are trying to just keep this on the hush, he's not sweating it, man. This is something that they have to pay attention to because this dude made it such a thing where now we have to uh figure out how to move around this without it being so obvious and without it causing any problems or backlash on us. He just needs to let it go. Just let it go because it's not gonna do nothing for nobody. It's gonna piss off the other owners. Yeah, but who's to say that the other owners don't already do this? You just didn't catch it yet. Something to think about. That is something to think about. My thing is this is where I am, right? I do my video games, right? Uh I'm doing this podcast, I do music, I do 3D printing, I do all this stuff. I don't got enough time. And I have children and a wife, and I work. I don't have time to be digging up what somebody is doing. You know, like I want to enjoy life. I don't want to enjoy tearing somebody down, tearing a company down, getting involved in something that might be way over my head. Now if it's for the better good of of of uh b society, I guess, right? Or the better good of someone's health, that being physical or mental, sure. But this is a aha moment and it's gonna be an egg on the face, cause it's not gonna be uh anything once the season starts. It's not. It's just not. If it is, I'd be uh super surprised. So that is it for this one. I do need to catch up on the WBPL, the WPBL, Women's Pro Baseball League. I'm trying to, oh man, my uh my audio listeners, my eyes just went all over the place trying to figure that out. But yeah, I do need to watch that. Like I said, there's four teams, uh 10 games in total that they play each, 10 each. And um, so if I'm correct, depending on how they play, their playoff should be starting. So 30 games. 30 games. I'm sorry. Not 10, 30. So we'll see uh what's going on with that. We'll keep up with that again. I looked at the rosters. Um I say again because I said it on our previous episode. Uh I looked at the rosters, they're they look uh looks interesting. I mean, I can you can't, it's baseball, right? You can't really say, oh, that person has an arm on them, or oh, they get that really good. You know, it's new. Women's Pro Baseball League. I wish it would have been the the uh uh WMLB, right? But hey, we'll see. We'll see. If they get big enough, and the MLB picks up on it, they could do what the what the NBA did. It could be something great. A lot of baseball fans out there. So with this, the women that are in college playing baseball, softball, they have an avenue to go to now as far as professionally is concerned. I don't know uh business model, structures, funds, uh, owners, stuff like that, but I'm sure they'll be getting paid nowhere near as much as the men, but they've been around for so long. You know, baseball is one of the, if not, is one of, if not the highest paying sport uh out there right now. So there is that. But again, I need to get into that and see what's going on. Uh WNBA is looking crazy. Uh few good plays or a few good things I've seen with the Indiana fever, uh, not keeping up with uh a lot of the teams lately. It's been so much going on. Um, as far as I'm concerned, for me, because you know, I'm working, like I said, I'm focusing on some 3D prints that I want to work on and getting that up and running. Um, trying to find a place for my uh vending business because I want to start putting my uh vending machines in certain places. Uh this podcast that I just started, again, this is episode four, my YouTube channel. It's all types of stuff. Like I'm just busy, I'm getting ready to do write, uh not write, but I'm getting ready to record a new song. I have an album that's already been out uh since 2025, 2024. Dictation of Philip Holmes or Philip Holmes Dictation. I forget. It's been a year or two. Forgive me. But yeah, so I'm just a busy guy. It's a lot, you know. So I keep up with what I can. Uh wrestling, uh, football, basketball, those for the most. Baseball's like a hit or miss. I will try to report on that. I mean, it wouldn't make any sense for me not to because it's right there. You see the little splashes or the rotating screens. You see the baseball teams. So I will be keeping up with that. Preseason, I want to say preseason has already started for the NFL. So it's been at least a few games. I want to say uh Giants are playing this weekend. So I'm definitely interested in seeing that and seeing what they look like. Speaking of football, I know I was getting ready to get out of here, but stuff's starting to pop up now, right? Speaking of football, Jaden Daniels has this issue with LSU and his number five. So now there's like this joke going around or memes going around of uh people saying that they're gonna do something like wear number five in honor of Jalen Jaden Daniels and uh some people playing the new college football game, and it says you can't wear number five, and Madden as well, you can't wear number five. So there's a running joke there with Jaden Daniels. I I don't understand what that's about, but I think he wants his jersey retired or something like that. And I saw one of the comments that just said, you know, hey, dude, you you had one good season. One good season, and you acting like this. That's not how this goes. So uh we'll see how uh this plays out, I guess. Can't wear a jersey. What the heck? Um, yeah, we'll wait and see how this all plays out. This one's for y'all for the weekend. I'll try to get another one done for y'all to get your week started. If I don't, I'll see y'all again on Wednesday. This is Philip Paul. No, no, no, no, no. That is so wrong. My name is Philip Paul, and this is off the court. Thank you. Good night, good morning, good afternoon, wherever you are listening from.
